Sierra Railroad Company has a great opportunity for a seasoned construction/project management professional holding a California Class A General Engineering Contractor license. This is an opportunity to start a construction division from the ground up and run projects throughout northern and central California. Primarily responsible for successful execution of construction projects for multiple business lines. Lead and direct all aspects of capital projects and construction operations and ensure effective execution of company operational performance and growth strategy. Competency requirements include business acumen, customer focus, developing direct reports, drive for results, strategic agility and building effective teams. The preferred candidate can lead and motivate within a safe team environment.
Promote a safe working culture for all employees; working with safety and field personnel to minimize risk and increase safety for employees at all times.
Manage construction operations teams to achieve safety, performance, and financial success.
Oversee construction operations to ensure projects are built safely, on schedule and within budget.
Ensure that all crews have the tools and training to operate safely at all times and that all federal, state and local laws concerning safety, environment and other applicable areas are adhered to.
Drive operational performance and improvements to meet or exceed company goals.
Provide leadership and direction to ensure efficiency, quality, service, and cost-effective management of resources.
Work with company President & CEO to establish long-range goals, strategies, plans, and policies.
Ensure effective construction management practices, procedures, tools, and financial controls are established and maintained for project operations.
Interface with stakeholders and senior management to confirm project sponsorship and support, agree on strategy, and report progress, achievements, significant issues, and risks.
Ensure all participants are clear on project goals, benefits, methods, roles, and responsibilities are well understood.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Experience and Education
Requires 15+ years’ experience in the capacity of construction and project management of medium and large-scale construction projects.
General Contractor’s license required.
Must have demonstrable experience committing to a safe and healthful work environment.
10+ years’ experience in strategic planning and execution in construction.
Experience creating, working within, and/or administering an assigned budget.
Familiar with power plant technology, process systems and standards preferred.
Experience with railroad construction projects preferred.
Bachelors of Science in construction management or engineering preferred.

Frequently required to sit, and use hands.
Frequently required to stand and walk for extended periods of time.
Able to safely drive a vehicle for long periods of time.
Working Conditions and Travel
Frequent travel to several projects in northern and central California.
Ability to work unplanned overtime.
Work outdoors in northern and central California weather.
