Tracks need preventive maintenance! Deferred maintenance will cause derailments, resulting in extensive repairs and disruption of rail service. Sierra Northern will inspect and evaluate the structure of your railroad track to determine the level of maintenance and/or repairs needed, and will prepare a comprehensive proposal to meet the needs of your trackage and industry.
Sierra Northern operates over 100 miles of track in Mendocino county, Tuloumne and Stanislaus counties, and Yolo County. Sierra Northern provides rail shipping to all of California through interchanges BNSF and UP. With access several railyards and public warehouses, ports, and industrial complexes, Sierra Northern coordinates the storage and distribution of thousands of carloads annually.

We use the latest in electronic data exchange via Railcar Management Inc (RMI) software and offer our customers a wide range of options for receiving information from our records. All carload information is shared electronically with our connecting Class I partners for smooth operations from origin to destination. Sierra Northern’s customer service center is at West Sacramento, California and provides support—including shipping information, car tracing, and demurrage records—between 6:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
